Days 2 & 3: Waterberg Plateau Region (camping)

Collect your hired vehicle and drive north to Waterberg Plateau Region and onto the Waterberg Wilderness Lodge Reserve where you will camp for the next 2 nights. The camp site is surrounded by the national nature conservancy of Waterberg National Park which is home to a number of threatened species such as buffalo, rhino, leopard, vulture and other antelope. It is also a haven for over 200 species of birds. The Waterberg Wilderness Lodge is situated on the farm Otjosongombe which extends from the foot of the Waterberg up to the plateau, therefore the lodge is the only one in the Waterberg region and can offer its guests guided hiking tours the Waterberg Plateau. Campsite fee included.

Days 4 & 5: Onguma Bush Camp, Etosha East (accommodation)

Make your way north today, to the eastern border of Etosha National Park and Onguma Bush Camp. This quiet lodge offers air conditioned thatched bungalows, swimming pool and open restaurant. The bird life in this area is outstanding with over 300 species having been recorded. The farm is also home to the largest breeding colony of white-backed vulture in Namibia. To reach Onguma from the Namutoni gate of Etosha, drive out of the gate and turn immediately left, following the Onguma markers for 9km to the lodge. Dinner & breakfast included.

Day 6: Okaukuejo Rest Camp, Etosha National Park (accommodation)

You will stay in Etosha for this night, undertaking self guided game drives and staying at Okaukuejo in the southern area of the Park. This rest camp offers excellent night time game viewing opportunities at the floodlit waterhole. The Rest Camp also has a restaurant, shop and swimming pool. Room only basis.

Days 7 & 8: Aba Huab, Damaraland (camping)

You will drive south today, out of the Park and towards Damaraland. You may like to take a look at the Petrified Forest on your way, a bizarre collection of largely intact gymnosperm trees that were preserved and transformed into stone by anaerobic conditions. Continue on to the Aba Huab camp site. This community campsite cannot be booked in advance. Enjoy the vast open spaces of this landscape which is characterised by ochre coloured boulders and wide gravel plains. Camp at the Aba Huab community campsite tonight, located in a dry river bed and close to the game trails of the desert elephant which you may be lucky enough to see. Campsite fee to be settled directly.

Day 9: Spitzkoppe (camping)

You have a 4.5 hour drive today via the Brandberg, Namibia's highest mountain, in the direction of the coast. You may like to make a diversion to Cape Cross to visit the largest fur seal colony in Southern Africa en-route. This remote and beautiful community campsite has no facilities and cannot be booked in advance but is often regarded as one of the best campsites in Namibia. The stunning views from the mountain at sunset take your breath away and there are some self-guided hikes that you can take before settling in for a night under the stars. Make sure that you bring your own food, water & firewood with you. Campsite fees to be settled directly.

Days 10 & 11: Sea Breeze Guest House, Swakopmund (accommodation)

Make your way to the coast. Swakopmund is a picturesque resort with many good seafood restaurants and shops as well as an interesting museum and aquarium. You will stay for two nights at Sea Breeze, a very comfortable and friendly guest house overlooking the beach and located just outside the town centre. Perhaps enjoy a romantic dinner overlooking the ocean in one of the excellent Swakopmund restaurants. Breakfast included.

Days 12& 13: Tsauchab Camping, Sesriem (camping)

Credit: ATI, NamibRand

Set off this morning for the dunes of the Namib Desert, near to Sesriem and Sossusvlei. The drive should take approximately 5 hours and you will arrive at the Tsauchab camp site this afternoon. Situated on the banks of the magnificent Tsauchab river, surrounded by the majestic Naukluft- and Tsaris mountains, there is a unique camp with exclusive chalets and campsites with a difference. The Tsauchab river with its enormous wild-fig trees and crystal clear springs is the main source of water supply to the nearby situated Sesriem Canyon and Sossusvlei. This natural phenomenon abruptly ends in a dry lake at the foot of the worlds highest dunes. The beautiful sunsets, combined with the indigenous fauna and flora will leave an unforgettable impression on you.

Wake early on the morning of day 13 to drive the 70km through the dune fields to Sossusvlei. Most of this road is on tar, the last 5km are sandy 4x4 roads. Explore the dunes around the salt pan of Sossusvlei, and maybe walk across the sand to Deadvlei, a bizarre collection of ancient camelthorn trees and a photographers dream. Campsite fees included.

Day 14: Corona Guest Farm, Gamsberg (accommodation)

Proceed onto the Khomas Region before making your way back to Windhoek tommorrow. Corona offers its guests pleasant accommodation in 4 deluxe family-sized suites as well as 6 well-appointed double rooms, each having a private and individually decorated bathroom. The lodge offers verandas, cool lounges, a small bar plus reading corner, and the refreshing pool where visitors can devote themselves to sunbathing or lounging in the shade beneath ancient jacaranda trees. Dinner & breakfast included + afternoon nature drive.
