Vumbura Plains Camp is a luxury camp situated to the north of Mombo, in a private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve in the extreme north of the Okavango Delta.
The Vumbura Reserve offers both land and water activities in a park that has a wonderful variety of habitats and a great diversity of wildlife. The main activity at Vumbura Plains is game viewing in wonderful and varied countryside. Open 4x4 Land Rovers allow close proximity to animals in the savannah and forested areas. Add in Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Cheetah and Buffalo along with all the plains species and one has an excellent all round wildlife experience in a remote and private part of the Okavango. Birding too is great with large varieties and quantities. Walks, mokoro trips and motor boating give Vumbura's guests the opportunity to also enjoy Africa from a different perspective.
All of the luxury rooms are raised off the ground on wooden platforms with walkways connecting them to the main communal areas. Each room has a large, very comfortable bedroom, a lounge, "sala" and en-suite facilities with a shower, a flush toilet and an outdoor shower under the stars. Each room also has a plunge pool overlooking the waving grass of the floodplain. The main dining, lounge and bar area is also raised off the ground and tucked beneath a canopy of shady, indigenous trees with a wonderful vista. All meals & activities included + most beverages. You will transfer by light aircraft today to your next stop, your departure time will be advise don the afternoon of day 2. Mombo is situated on Mombo Island, adjoining the northern tip of Chief's Island, within the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta of northern Botswana. The camp has nine luxuriously furnished tents, raised off the ground. The guest rooms and connecting walkways are up to two metres off the ground, allowing game to wander freely through the camp while at the same time allowing for guest safety. One often finds that animals take refuge under the rooms!
Activities at Mombo centre around morning and afternoon game drives in open 4x4 vehicles.
The camp offers abundant big game viewing, arguably the best in Botswana. The highlight is the concentration of plains game and all the predators - including the big cats. Lion sightings are particularly good. Guests can also hope to see Leopard, large herds of Buffalo, Cheetah, Wild Dog, Elephant, Hyaena, Giraffe, Wildebeest and Zebra. Black and White Rhino have been reintroduced with outstanding success to the area (albeit most are further away from camp), thanks to the Botswana Rhino Reintroduction Programme. The outstanding game presence at Mombo has made this area Botswana's top wildlife documentary location and National Geographic, the BBC and many others have filmed here. All meals & activities included + most beverages. Photo credit: Dana Allen
Make your way further north today by light aircraft, to the Linyanti Swamps of the Northern Okavango Delta.
Kings Pool Camp is situated on the Linyanti River, bordering Namibia and sandwiched between Mamili & Chobe National Parks. The rooms are large & well appointed constructed from canvas and thatch. Each en-suite room comes with its own plunge pool, lounge, sala & outside shower. The units are linked by raised walkways, allowing animals to freely wander around the camp.
The park area is most famous for its elephant populations with one of the highest densities anywhere in Africa. Other game commonly seen include some of the rarer antelope including Roan, Sable and Sitatunga, plus of course the usual abundance of Zebra, Kudu, Buffalo and their associated predators.
Evening activities are offered along with day drives, walks & boat cruises. The camp also offers two hides, one underground to offer water level viewing at the camps watering hole and the other ideal for mid afternoon viewing of the camps western waterhole. All meals & activities included + most beverages. Photo credit: Dana Allen
